Born in
Edinburgh in 1971, Allan Caswell now lives in the Cornish village
of Rock. He spent his first four years of higher education studying
illustration at Falmouth School of Art, before moving to London
where he achieved a BA(hons) degree in illustration at Kingston
University. During this period Allan drew inspiration from artists
such as Whistler, Sickert, Hopper and Hockney.
After leaving
Art College, he worked as a freelance illustrator for two years
before travelling Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. On his
return he spent four years in St. Ives working in an open studio
and exhibiting in various galleries including a solo show at
the Plumbline Gallery. During his time in St. Ives, Allan was
also a visiting lecturer at Falmouth School of Art. He later
spent a year in Padstow before travelling Spain, Morocco, India
and America. Experiences from this trip were Allans's inspiration
for his Easter exhibition at the Rock Institute - an exhibition
in which he has exhibited for the past eight years.
Allan's
style of painting has been influenced be his many experiences
of travel, although the varying light and landscapes of the
Cornish coast and villages continue to inspire him.
Since 2003
Allan has had his own Gallery in Rock and many of his current
pieces concentrate on the local areas of Rock, Daymer Bay, Greenaway,
Polzeath and Port Isaac.
